- Biomarkers for Nutrition and Health (co-funded call) In February 2016, 14 countries launched the first ERA-HDHL Cofunded joint call for funding multilateral research projects on “Biomarkers for nutrition and health”. This Joint Action funded 12 projects that started in the beginning of 2017 for about 3 years.
- The Stakeholder Advisory Board (SHAB) was established to advise HDHL and to ensure an adequate exchange of information with other political bodies and stakeholders in the fields of Food & Health.

WHO ranks colorectal cancer as the 2nd leading cancer killer. Red and processed meats increase risk, and while the gut microbiome is vital for health and digestion, its exact role in the development of this specific cancer remains unclear and requires more study. - Image
Today is World Diabetes Day, highlighting the urgent need to tackle this global health crisis. The International Diabetes Federation, WHO, and UN are leading a global campaign focused on this year's theme: "Access to Diabetes Care." This day underscores the importance of ensuring treatment and support are available to millions worldwide. - HDHL aims to enhance dietary quality sustainably, drawing from insights in food, nutrition, and health sciences. The goal is to provide evidence-based recommendations and innovative food product formats, coupled with addressing sedentary behavior.

We are pleased launch the new joint funding activity the Knowledge Hub call on ‘Establishing the link between food processing, human health, and sustainable food systems’. The aim of the call is to establish a transnational, multidisciplinary network to provide recommendations for policy and practice. - Standardised measurement, monitoring and/or biomarkers to study food intake, physical activity and health In January 2021, the JPI HDHL launched STAMIFY, the 4th additional non-cofunded Joint Funding Action (JFA) implemented in the frame of the ERA-Net Cofund HDHL INTIMIC.
- Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases are a primary cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Diet is a major risk factor for cardio-metabolic health, but is challenging to study in part because metabolic response to diet is highly individualised. Characterising the molecular pathways that mediate personalised responses to diet is critical to effectively tackle the current epidemic. Epigenetic…

How policies can protect the health and life of millions: BREMEN, Germany, November 29, 2022 – The covid-19-pandemic may give a different impression, but non-communicable diseases are by far the leading cause of disability and death in Europe. - Background and aimRecent findings convincingly demonstrate that Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) are modifiable by diet and reflect changes in healthy state. SALIVAGES investigates whether that diet-induced AGEs can act as reliable biomarkers of changes in health status and/or risk, focusing on the most highly accessible source of AGEs, the saliva. The main objectives of SALIVAGES were the…
- Background and aimFAME aimed to a) identify novel lipidomics biomarkers as biomarkers of fatty acid status and of future cardiometabolic clinical events, b) establish relationships between diet and tissue status of fatty acids as explanatory factors for diet relationships with cardiometabolic health, and c) to investigate genetic determinants of fatty acid status and metabolism which modify the…
- The DINAMIC project investigates the interplay between diet, the gut microbiota, and the host in the context of cardiometabolic health. Using state-of-the-art prospective human cohorts, microbiota profiling allows the consortium to identify specific features associated with disease states. Clinical trials based on dietary interventions and fecal microbiota transplantation were designed and are…
