CLEVERFOOD project has started

HDHL (through ZonMw) is a partner in the new EU-funded project CLEVERFOOD. The aim is to transform the European food system towards a more regenerative, resilient and plant-based food system.

The project officially started on January 1, 2023. During the kick-off meeting in February, all 23 partners discussed the coordination of the different work packages and associated tasks. In addition, a joint start was made with the design of an interactive exhibition on food system transformation, which will be one of the main outputs of the project. The exhibition for children and adults will be hosted by science centres and museums in Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Denmark, Cyprus and Ireland. Other countries might also join the list at a later stage, depending on interest and possibilities.

Objectives

The overarching objective of CLEVERFOOD is to mobilise all European food system stakeholders at the local, regional, national and supra-national level to shift the food system towards more sustainable, resilient and regenerative food production and consumption. This objective will be achieved by:

A) Fostering cooperation, coordination and synergy among ongoing, new and upcoming European projects focussing on food system transformation. Numerous projects and initiatives are happening or planned in the food systems realm in Europe, but they are often not connected in any way.

B) Facilitating shared learning by connecting policy labs and living labs, where farmers, entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, educators, knowledge brokers, industry leader and policy makers are working together with citizens to co-create a more sustainable and healthy food system.

The shared learnings from A and B will be connected and used as input to policy dialogues and roundtables at the supra-national, national and city levels.

Contribution HDHL

Healthy Diet for a Healthy Live (JPI HDHL) is one of the project partners and will mainly contribute to facilitating discussions (so-called Policy Dialogues) with local, urban, regional and national governments that will be fed by both outcomes of relevant international research in nutrition, health and sustainability and outcomes of the policy and living labs that will be connected through this project. The policy dialogues will take place with governments and other stakeholders in at least seven different countries, based on the status of their current food policies. The outcomes of the dialogues will help  to develop new food systems oriented strategies for promoting healthy and sustainable food policy and legislation at local, national and European level.
